MXGP continued the FIM Motocross World Championship 2020, and toured the beautiful Faenza region of Italy in Europe, participating in three Italian races such as MXGP of Italy, MXGP of Città di Faenza's and MXGP of Emilia Romagna's. After the accomplishment of the Latvian GP, including a new racing set-up and ten days of incredible action midweek races, MXGP gained impetus with three consecutive championships coming this season!
Faenza’s hard-packaged track is located in the Emilia Romagna area and is passionate about Motorsports. It held the FIM Motocross World Championship for the first time in 1979 and the 500cc championship won the world champion, Heikki Mikkola, four times over the weekend.
Faenza has held many MXGP events over the years. Past champions include Eric Geboers, Max Nagl, Gautier Paulin. And Antonio Cairoli.
2012 was the last time a world championship race was held on the Italian circuit. It was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Antonio Cairoli, Christophe Pourcel, and Monster Energy Kawasaki's Clement Desalle, who won the MXGP (then called MX1) championship MXGP in the first place.
At the same time, in MX2, Jeffrey Herlings from the Red Bull KTM factory champion, followed by Tommy Searle in 2nd and Jeremy Van Horebeek in 3rd on the podium.
Although many changes have taken place since then, and eight years have passed since the MXGP calendar, Faenza will welcome back MXGP and MX2 drivers, as well as additional rewards for the EMX125 and EMX2t championships hosted by FMF Racing, and even more Italian action-packed week.
